"Uncle Sam" wants some young men in his navy and has sent out notices
stating his wants, one of which is posted at the post office. It reads as
follows:
Landsmen wanted immediately on board of the U.S. Receiving Ship Independence
at Vallejo, California, for a course of instruction for the U.S. Navy. The
term of enlistment if four years, with wages $16. per month with rations.
An outfit of clothing worth $45. is supplied. Applicants must be American
citizens and from eighteen to twenty-five years of age and sound physically.
