Red Bluff Daily News
Red Bluff, Tehama County, California
March 2, 1901
The jury in the case of the People vs. Mrs. Edna LEYBECK, who was
charged with the theft of some sheets, towels, spoons and forks from the
Imperial Hotel in August last, brought in a verdict of not guilty. It is
said that the first ballot stood nine for acquittal to two for conviction.
The second ballot was ten to one, the third ballot the same and then it was
proposed that all who had voted for acquittal should raise thier hands and
this being done the juror for conviction was known and on the fourth ballot
he too voted for acquittal making the verdict of the eleven jurors
unanimous.
