CITY AND COUNTY.
Time to plant garden truck.
Now is the proper time to prune your trees.
Congress has ordered another survey of the Olympia harbor.
Born, in this city last Monday, to the wife of Geo. MILLS, a son.
A bank is to be established in Tenino shortly by W. Dean HAYS.
Mr. and Mrs. C. M. BRAINARD were pleasant callers at this office last
Saturday.
Geo. SHELLEY and Miss Bessie WELLER, were married in Little Rock this
week.
The infant daughter of Ed. JONES died at Tumwater last Sunday, of
measles.
Miss Elsie BEACH died in Seattle last Monday of consumption at the age of
18 years.
J. L. SMITH, of Little Rock, one of the CHRONICLE'S friends was a
pleasant caller last Friday.
Thomas KEARNEY has returned home from California where he has been
visiting for several months.
The Old Folks concert entertainment given in the Christian church
Wednesday evening was a success.
F. C. REICHEL and Miss Nellie KINSEY were granted a license to get
married this week by county auditor MORRISON.
Preston GREEN has his ankle fractured last Monday while at work on the
farm of John Gunstone near this city.
The wife of W. H. Burdick, who lives near the Piety hill school house,
presented him with a 10-pound girl last Tuesday.
W. J. MILROY and wife arrived in this city this week from California,
where they spent their honeymoon. They will go to Alaska soon.
J. D. HENRY, the well known civil engineer, has resigned his position in
the state land office and has removed to Raymond where he has employment.
Miss Olive DAVIS was injured in a runaway accident last Saturday while
returning from Rainier with Geo. MAINER. The accident happened on
Chamber's prairie near this city. The lady received a broken ankle and a
dislocated shoulder.
A school election was held in this city last Saturday which resulted in
the selection of R. R. R. STREETS for school director. The voters also
decided, by a small majority, to pay an additional levy for the purpose
of completing the high school.
Judge LINN has issued an order restraining T. J. McCLELLAND and other
officers of the Tenino Light and Power company from disposing of the
property of the company until March 14th when a hearing will be heard on
the application of Thos. E. GOING for the appointment of a receiver.
NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS.
An Indian from the North beach was in Hoquiam Wednesday and had with him
the skin of a fine sea otter which he shot near Point Geanville. The
skin measured five feet six inches in length and is valued at $500.
It is said that some Hoquiam parties are interested in a big timber deal
in Oregon by which they hope to acquire title to lands containing
100,000,000 feet of valuable timber.
Harry FISHER, a former tallyman at the National Lumber & Box company's
mill in this city, was seriously injured on Monday at CLEMON's logging
camp near Montesano, by being run over by cars on the Clemon's spur.
The entertainment at the Summit schoolhouse last Saturday was a complete
success in every way, Miss Esther HARTEL proved herself the best speller
and carried off the prize, Longfellow's poems. The program was short but
spicy. Forty-two dollars was realized from the sale of the baskets. The
money is to go to the library.
Manager BROWN, of Aberdeen club, is after Manager J. D. CRARY of the
Grays Harbor railway & light company to have a prepared for use in
protecting the diamond at the ball park. The canvas will be elevated at
night, so that in the event of rain, the diamond will be in shape for
ball the following day.
The memorial to congress for the opening of Neah Bay Indian Reservation,
which past the house three weeks ago, was past by the senate last week,
and is now en route to Washington.
IN MEMORIAM.
Died, at Acme, Wash, Dec. 22, 1906, Mary Josephine HURD, mother
of Mrs. Will STEPHENS. Deceased was taken sick while visiting in
Bellingham. She was improving when taken to the home of her daughter,
but died on the morning of the 22nd of heart failure.
