WILL ACT TODAY ON EXEMPTION CLAIMS
LOCAL BOARD SAYS MANY WILL BE DENIED EXAMINATIONS THIS WEEK.
Consideration of the claims for exemption filed by those first
examined a
week ago was begun by the local selection board Friday. Thursday having
been the last day such claims could be presented. Early disposition of
most of the cases is expected and the board makes no secret of the fact
that many of them will be denied.
Physical examinations of the supplementary list called last week
were
conducted Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, by Dr. W. L. BRIDGFORD,
physician of the board, and associates. Changed regulations resulted in a
smaller percentage of rejections than on the first call last week, but
the number of those passed who put in claims for exemption averaged about
the same as last week.
In order to handle the boards business to better advantage
County
Auditor Annie GASTON rigged up a special office for the purpose with L.
J. MORRISON in charge. Because of errors that crept into reports of its
findings, the board has not given out this week the list of those
claiming exemptions, confining itself to publication of those accepted
and rejected at the physical examinations, until it could get its affairs
systematized.
Those Already Certified.
The board the fore part of this week certified to the district
board as
held for military service the 52 men who failed to report for physical
examination last week and 19 others who had asked exemption on
agricultural or industrial grounds and whose claims will be decided by
the district board. Among the former class were quite a number who had
previously enlisted.
