- DEATH OF MRS. JOHN COUTTS -
- A venerable lady well known to many in town passed away in Perth on Sunday
January 19th in the person of Mrs. COUTTS, wife of the late John COUTTS for
many years the proprietor of the COUTTS HOUSE at Rideau Ferry. Mrs. COUTTS
was a native of Rideau Ferry. Her maiden name was Helen Buchanan CAMPBELL,
and she was a granddaughter of the late Rev. Mr. BUCHANAN, the pioneer
Presbyterian minister of Beckwith. Her long residence at the COUTTS HOUSE gav
e her a wide circle of acquaintances and her gentle motherly manner made her
highly esteemed by the many who made that well known resort their stopping
place. The deceased had reached the advanced age of 77 years. Her husband
died about four years ago. Two sons, Peter of Haileybury, Archie of Rideau
Ferry, and two daughters Mrs. George Crozier of Kingston and Miss Jennie at
home.
