PATMAN, D.F.
SARIA, Mary C., 2
VOSBURGH, Miss Georgie

Hon W.E. LOVETT started East last Saturday. He has business at
Washington.

Miss Lou WRIGHT, daughter of Captain WRIGHT, has accepted an engagement
to teach the Erie school.

Mr. J.B. RHINEHART, son of farmer RHINEHART, near Hollister, has just
returned with his family from an Eastern trip and is now visiting the old
folks.

Mr. H.W. BRIGGS, merchant at Gilroy, took a spin around town a few days
ago and was much surprised and pleased at the rapid growth of
improvements.

Mr. McILROY, of Tres Pinos, announces himself as a candidate for Sheriff.
He has served for 4 years in the Sheriff’s office of Santa Clara county
under ADAMS, and is doubtless in every way competent to do the work of
the office.

MILLER & LUX are about to divide up their Peach Tree ranch for farming
purposes. They intend, we believe, to retain possession of the land, but
will rent it in tracts to suit, and will furnish seed, tools and teams to
industrious farmers of small means.

Messrs. DONNELLY, DUNNE & Co., met with a severe loss on the Bolsa last
week, in the burning of 250 tons of straw. In ordinary years the loss
would be trifling, but at a time when the fields and hills are bare of
pasture, even straw is valuable. These stockmen consider the loss equal
to $2,500. The fire was doubtless the careless work of a tramp.
