Born -- HALL -- at Paicines, June 10, to the wife of George E. HALL, a
son.
Born -- HAASE -- at Hollister, June 19, to the wife of G.A. HAASE, a son.
Died -- STAYTON -- at the Stayton Mines, San Benito County, June 26,
Adronijah [sp? -- damaged] STAYTON, aged 63 years. [Deceased died from
malaria contracted in the San Joaquin Valley. He was a brother of R.G.
STAYTON, of Gilroy, at which place the remains were interred last
Monday ]
Herbert YOUNGER, son of Dr. Wm. YOUNGER, of San Francisco, was married
last Wednesday to Miss Frances MILLER, the charming daughter of Mr.&Mrs.
J.H. MILLER, of Emmett. Mr. MILLER is the telephone companys agent at
Elkhorn Station

James W. GRUVER and Miss Ina CHAMBERS, both of Bitterwater.
Married -- JEROME-GOTTSHALL -- in Hollister, June 30, by Rev. T.D.
BUTLER; Edward JEROME and Miss Lavina M. GOTTSHALL.
Died -- MYLAR -- at Hollister, July 5, Mrs. Talitha MYLAR, beloved wife
of Isaac MYLAR, a native of Illinois, aged 62 years, 8 months, 13 days.
[Deceased was the mother of Mrs. Frank HITCHCOCK, was an estimable woman,
and her death entirely unexpected, greatly shocked her many friends and
acquaintances. She was a resident of Bitterwater, and was down here on a
visit when her death occurred. Deceased came to California in 1854, and
has lived in this section since 1855, having come to San Juan in that
year. She was married in 49 to Isaac MYLAR, to whom she born 8 children,
Mrs. Frank HITCHCOCK, of this place; Mrs. Simon GOLDWATER, of San Lucas;
Mrs. Geo. E. PULLEN, of Kings City; Mrs. Dr. LIVINGSTON, of Seattle; Mrs.
Clyde HARPER, of Bitterwater; Mrs. Chas. MOSHER, of Palo Alto; Emeline
(died in infancy) and Mr. T.J. MYLAR, of Bitterwater. She was a member of
the Christian Church and like all pioneer women, possessed great force of
character, attracting friends by her kind actions, and generous nature.
The funeral took place last Wednesday afternoon at this place.]
Died -- DALMAGE -- at Oakland, July 3, Edward A. DALMAGE, a native of
Canada, aged 33 years, 6 mos. [ He married, some 3 years ago, Miss
LINDSAY, niece of Messrs. J.A. & C.C. WRIGHT, of this place and leaves
her and 2 children. The funeral took place here on the Fourth.]
Died -- MARTIN -- at Hollister, July 6, infant daughter of Mr.&Mrs.
Manuel MARTIN, aged 9 months.
Died -- WILCOX -- near San Jose, July 3, Edmund N., beloved husband of
Lottie WILLCOX [spelled 2 ways], and son of Wilbur J. and Jerome WILCOX,
a native of San Jose, aged 34 years.

Born -- ROZAS, Jr. -- at San Juan, July 10, to the wife of Ambrosio
ROZAS, Jr., a daughter.
Born -- SKOVMAND -- at Tres Pinos, July 9, to the wife of Geo. SKOVMAND,
a son.
Born -- HUDNER -- in Hollister, July 13, to the wife of John L. HUDNER, a
son.
Married -- SCOFIELD-McCRAY -- at the Presbyterian Church, San Jose, July
4, by Rev. W.D. NICHOLAS; Norman B. SCOFIELD to Stella McCRAY. [The
charming bride is the daughter of Mr. Frank P. McCRAY, was raised in this
vicinity She has been a student at Stanford University for several years.
She was captain of the basketball team that defeated Berkeley and she
held the tennis championship of the University for several years. Mr.
SCHOFIELD [spelled 2 ways] is a graduate of Stanford. He holds a position
in the U.S. Fish Commission and is at present stationed at Olema ]
Married -- AUTENREITH-JOSE -- at Hollister, July 10, by Rev. W.P.
ANDREWS; John E. AUTENREITH, of Shasta County, to Miss Maud M. JOSE, of
Hollister.
Married -- FLOYD-STROHN -- at San Jose, July 12, by Justice WALLACE;
Charles FLOYD to Natalia STROHN.
Died -- MATTHEWS -- in Hollister, July 14, Hugh P. MATTHEWS, a native of
California, aged 21 years. [ his parents, Mr.&Mrs. Hugh MATTHEWS, of
Emmet, have the sympathy ailing for a long time past from consumption The
funeral took place yesterday from the New Pacific Hotel.]
Died -- OSBORN -- in Hollister, July 14, Robert OSBORN, a native of
Cornwall, England, aged 60 years. [Funeral will take place this morning
from the M.E. Church, South ]
Died -- FRUSETTA -- near San Benito, July 10, Peter FRUSETTA, a native of
California, aged 11 years. [from 23 Jul issue -- who accidentally killed
himself at San Benito last week.]
Died -- PARRENT -- at Santa Rosa, July 7, Dr. P.P. PARENT [spelled 2
ways], a native of Illinois, aged 56 years. [ one of the most prominent
veterinarians in the State, was father of Mrs. J.H. PAINTER, of this
place, and formerly resided here.]
Died -- MOUESCA -- in France, May 15, Mrs. MOUSECA, mother of Joseph
MOUESCA, of Hollister, and sister of Juan INDART, of Tres Pinos, aged 60
years.
J.E. HETHERINGTON, a popular young resident of Salinas, died suddenly
last Sunday

Mr.&Mrs. E.E. ROBERTS, aged 1 year, 5 months, 22 days.

from the M.E. Church, last Monday afternoon.

Felix BUELNA, of San Juan, a native of California, aged 33 year, 16 days.
Died -- DUARTE -- in Watsonville, Aug. 11, Minnie DUARTE, aged 18 years,
1 month, 16 days. [Funeral will take place today at 9:30am from the
Catholic Church.]

Monterey.
Died -- BROOKS -- at Santa Ana Valley, Aug. 18, Francis BROOKS, a native
of California, aged 34 years.

FARRISH to Miss May COLLINS. [The groom is a son of U.S. Deputy Marshal
A.L. FARRISH and is well known hereabouts, having been born and raised in
this county. The bride is the daughter of Mr.&Mrs. A.L. COLLINS, of
Capay. The young couple will reside at Rumsey, Yolo county, where the
groom is a fruit-grower.]
Married -- FLAHERTY-LAURA -- at Hollister, Aug. 25, by Major McINTYRE, of
the Salvation Army; Captain Michael FLAHERTY to Miss Jessie LAURA.
[ Thos. FLAHERTY was groomsman and the brides sister was bridesmaid ]
Died -- HERRERA -- at Tres Pinos, Aug. 21, Mrs. Isabela de HERRERA, aged
47 years, 1 month, 17 days. [ quite a shock to our neighborhood as it was
not thought that she was dangerously ill Mrs. HERRERA passed away about 5
oclock Saturday afternoon. The funeral took place from the residence at
9:30 Monday, thence to the Catholic Church, Hollister, where services
were held.]
Died -- MILES -- at San Juan, Aug. 20, Thomas MILES, aged about 27 years.
[ contracted typhoid fever at the New Idria Mines and hoping that the
change would do him good, his wife had him taken to San Juan.]

Married -- BOGGS-McCAW -- in San Francisco, Aug. 25, by Superior Judge
Carroll COOK; Charles W. BOGGS to Miss Lizzie McCAW, of San Francisco.
Died -- TAYLOR -- at Santa Cruz, Aug. 29, Mrs. Nelson TAYLOR, a native of
Massachusetts. [ mother of Mr. Herbert N. TAYLOR, of this place a zealous
member of the Congregational Church of over 40 years She came to Santa
Cruz in 1857 on a visit to her sister, Mrs. R.H. SAWIN (should be SWAIN?)
Soon after her arrival she and Mr. TAYLOR were united in marriage. She
leaves, besides her son, Herbert, her husband, now 86 years of age, and a
daughter.]

the popular cigar dealer, and Miss Bertha SCHWENNINGER, the charming
sister of Mrs. Adolph WAHL, were united in marriage last Tuesday
morning ]
Married -- PERKINS-BROWN -- at Hollister, Sept. 8, by Rev. W.P. ANDREWS;
Richard PERKINS to Miss Lola BROWN.
Died -- OCONNOR -- at San Francisco, Sept. 4, Mrs. Ann OCONNOR, a
native of Ireland, aged 88 years. [ mother of Mrs. P. DOUGHERTY, of San
Juan lived here for many years. The remains were brought from San
Francisco and interred at San Juan last Monday afternoon.]
Died -- HEISINGER -- at Salinas, Sept. 7, Mrs. G.H. HEISINGER, aged 33
years.

Born -- OLIVER -- in Pacific Grove, Sept. 8, to F.W. OLIVER and wife, a
daughter.
Married -- MERRILL-TUCKER -- at the residence of H.M. CAMPBELL,
Hollister, Sept. 16, by Rev. Mr. ANDREWS; Ben C. MERRILL to Alice B.
TUCKER.
Died -- POOLE -- in San Francisco, Sept. 13, Josephine, beloved wife of
J.E. POOLE, daughter of the late Dr. Robert RANKIN, a native of
Placerville, Cal., aged 40 years.
Died -- BERMINGHAM -- at San Juan, Sept. 15, Mrs. M. BERMINGHAM, a native
of New York, aged 75 years. [Deceased was a well-known and highly
respected resident of San Juan. The funeral took place from the San Juan
Mission yesterday forenoon and was largely attended.] [from 24 Sep issue
-- wife of our Justice of the Peace, John BERMINGHAM an old pioneer of
this place, in fact, is said to have been the first white woman to take
up a permanent residence, among the Indians here Her funeral from the

France, aged 47 years.
Died -- NUNES -- at Hollister, Sept. 22, Carmilata NUNES, daughter of
Mr.&Mrs. Ventura NUNES, a native of California, aged 4 years, 5 months.
Died -- SMITH -- at Santa Cruz, after a lingering illness, Sept. 22, Mrs.
Octavia SMITH, a native of Missouri, aged 56 years. [ mother of Mrs. Eva
MOREHEAD, Dora, Maud, and Ferdinand SMITH well-known in Hollister ]
Sarah E. BAILEY was granted a divorce from Jos. D. BAILEY in the Superior
Court last Tuesday on the grounds of failure to provide. Plaintiff
testified that defendant had treated her cruelly, pinched, cuffed and
starved her and told her that he regarded her merely as his mistress
HOMICIDE NEAR NEW IDRIA -- A telephone dispatch last Sunday night, from
Panoche, conveyed the startling intelligence of the death of Frank LYNCH
at the hands of John ASHURST in front of Manuel GONZALES Saloon, a few
miles this side of the New Idria Quicksilver Mines [long story]
