**6 Mar issue --
Born -- HUDSON -- in Watsonville, Feb. 22, to the wife of W.G. HUDSON, a
son.

Married -- WORTHINGTON-MORRIS -- at the residence of John MORRIS in
Salinas City, March 2, by Justice L.B. JENKINS; R.H. WORTHINGTON and
Maggie MORRIS, both of Corral de Tierra.

Died -- HARRIS -- in Salinas, March 1, of consumption, John Hinton
HARRIS, aged 35 years.

Died -- HELLSE -- near Salinas, March 2, Frida, daughter of Mr.&Mrs. John
HELLSE, aged 1 year, 6 months.

Died -- GRAVES -- at Oakland, March 4, Hugh GRAVES of Salinas City, aged
37 years. [Funeral will take place from the residence of J.J. CONNER,
Central Avenue, at 2 o’clock this afternoon. ( Conner name iffy due to
damage)]

John WELTI died at Kings City on the 4th inst., and was buried in the
IOOF cemetery at Salinas yesterday. The deceased was a native of
Switzerland, aged 62 years.

Coast News -- George McGAUGHEY was thrown from his wagon at Santa
Barbara, Saturday, and run over and killed.

Captain W.D. HALEY, a well-known journalist and Grand Army man, died in
San Jose last Sunday, after a lingering illness, aged 62 years. Captain
HALEY’s latest venture was the Santa Margarita ‘Times,’ which failing
health compelled him to abandon several months ago. His death was
hastened by a wound received in the war of the rebellion, which never
completely healed.

Joseph TREASURE, a native of Great Britain, was admitted to citizenship
Monday on the testimony of Thomas RENISON and John HARGENS.

Peter Madson NELSEN, a native of Denmark, was admitted to citizenship
last Saturday on the testimony of J.P. SVENDING and Chris P. MOLLER.

**13 March issue --
Born -- LEMON -- in Salinas City, March 6, to the wife of G.B. LEMON, a
son.

Born -- NESBITT -- in Salinas City, March 7, to the wife of W.J. NESBITT,
a son.

Born -- DURHAM -- in Salinas City, March 11, to the wife of Bud DURHAM, a
son.

**20 March issue --
Died -- COLBERT -- at the home of his mother in Castroville, March 18, of
consumption, P.E. COLBERT, in the 30th year of his age.

Judge R.B. BUCKNER, City Justice of San Jose, died at his home in that
city last Monday, in the 68th year of his age. He was a native of
Winchester county, Kentucky, a veteran of the Mexican war and a
well-known pioneer of San Jose.

Hon. Thomas H. LAINE, of San Jose, died suddenly at the gateway to his
residence last Saturday evening as he was going home from his law office
at the close of his work for the day. Heart failure was the cause of his
death. Mr. LAINE was in the 58th year of his age. He was a native of
Boone county, Missouri, and came across the plains in 1849. He was a
lawyer and stood high in his profession. He was a Knight Templar, an Odd
Fellow, and a member of the Christian Church. A wife and 6 children
survive him. Mr. LAINE was greatly beloved in San Jose and throughout
Santa Clara county. On the day of his funeral the flags on all public
buildings were floated at half mast and men left their business houses
and their offices to follow his body to the grave.

Mrs. F.L. WALSH has received the sad news of the death of her father,
T.S. CHAPMAN, at Lewiston, Idaho, in the 73rd year of his age. He was a
prominent member of the Masonic fraternity, widely known and highly
respected throughout California, especially in the San Joaquin valley,
where many friends will regret to learn that he is dead.

Born -- MAJORS -- in Salinas City, Mar. 18, to the wife of Joseph MAJORS
of Pine Canyon, a daughter.

Born -- MASCIORINI -- in Salinas, Mar. 24, to the wife of D. MASCIORINI,
of Tularcitos, a daughter.

Married -- COY-DUNHAM -- at the residence of D. COY, in this city, Mar.
20, by Rev. Geo. McCORMICK; Andy COY and Miss Bessie B. DUNHAM, both of
Salinas City.

Married -- SCOTT-BATES -- at the Capital Hotel, Salinas City, Mar. 24, by
Judge J.K. ALEXANDER; Chas. SCOTT and Miss Belle BATES, both of Salinas
City.

Died -- STREHLOW -- in Salinas City, Mar. 22, Reinhold STREHLOW, a native
of Germany, aged 29 years.

Died -- FALL -- in Salinas City, Mar. 24, Mrs. Michael FALL, aged 58
years.

Died -- HOWELL -- at San Lucas, Mar. 20, M. HOWELL, native of Kingston,
Ark., aged 31 years.
