Married -- SHERWOOD-MYLAR -- in San Jose, Dec. 29, 1899, by E.M.

ARQUES played the Lohengrin wedding march a wedding breakfast at the
residence of Mr.&Mrs. Thomas BODLEY on North Third street Rev. and Mrs.
ACTON left for San Francisco en route for Lakeport, where the groom has a
lovely cottage furnished. Mrs. Julia BODLEY and Miss Ettie BODLEY, mother
and sister of the bride, will make their home with them ]
Died -- NUNES -- at Hollister, Dec. 29, 1899, Mrs. D.T. NUNES, a native
of Azores Islands, aged 38 years, 1 month. [The funeral of Mrs. D.T.
NUNEZ, who died last Friday, took place on Sunday, from the Catholic
Church ]
Mary C. RHODES was granted a divorce, in Superior Court, last Wednesday,
from Alvin C. RHODES on the grounds of desertion and non-support
A.W. BOOTH, a workman hereabouts, was found dead in the pit of Dan
McCLOSKEYs pumping plant last Sunday. It is presumed that, while
wandering about intoxicated, he mistook the shed over the pit for a barn
or granary Death must have been instantaneous as BOOTHs neck was broken

Mrs. Mary E. WALSH, who at one time taught the Uvas school, died at Los
Gatos, Thursday, Jan. 4th, aged 50 years, 3 months. The remains were
interred in the family plot in the Gilroy cemetery last Sunday afternoon.
Deceased will be remembered here by the name of Miss Mary SIMMONS, one of
the early teachers in our public school.
Panoche Items -- Mrs. H. COLEMAN was called to Colfax last week by the
sudden death of her daughters husband, Mr. J. DYER
Death of Miss Maud SNIBLEY -- The remains of Maud Emma SNIBLEY were
brought from San Francisco on Monday. Funeral services were held at the
residence of her sister, Mrs. W.H. STAYTON, on Tuesday Maud has been an
invalid for years She was born in Iowa and was 16 years, 9 months, 16
days old. When about 4 years of age, with her parents and other members
of the family, she moved to Hollister, Cal., where she lived 5 years,
when the family moved to San Francisco, where they have since resided She
leaves her parents, 4 brothers, William, Frank, Harry and Walter SNIBLEY,
and 4 sisters, Mrs. S.T. COOK, of Livermore, Ia.; Mrs. W.H. STAYTON, of
Gilroy; Mrs. Thos. COGAN and Miss Meda SNIBLEY of San Francisco

Born -- GARCIA -- near Hollister, Jan. 14, to the wife of Frank GARCIA, a
daughter.
Married -- LAUTERIO-BUZELL -- at Hollister, Jan. 11, by G. AGNEW, J.P.;
Adolphus F. LAUTERIO to Bessie F. BUZELL.
Died -- DeCAMPOS -- at Panoche, Jan. 15, Bridget DeCAMPOS, aged 55 years,
a native of Ireland. [Mrs. Briget DeCAMPOS, mother-in-law of Thos. ROUKE,
died near Emmet last Monday. The remains were taken to the city for
interment, by Undertaker HOPCROFT.]
Died -- DURAN -- at Hollister, Jan. 16, Arthur, infant son of Mr.&Mrs.
Jesus DURAN, aged 2 months, 17 days.
Died -- GIBSON -- at Hollister, Jan. 13, John L. GIBSON, 25 years, 5
months, 16 days, a native of California. [ of consumption ] [from the
Santa Rosa Republican-- a former Sonoma county resident his death
being due to an injury recently received. The news of his sudden illness
reached Santa Rosa relatives several days ago and all were at his bedside
when death occurred. A widowed mother, several brothers & 2 sisters
survive the deceased. The last are Mrs. SMITH, wife of Deputy Assessor
J.C. SMITH of this city, and Miss Kate GIBSON, of Hollister Mr. GIBSON
formerly resided at Guerneville ]
Died -- WALDENBURG -- at Boston, Mass., Jan. 10, Maud WALDENBURG, a
native of California, aged 22 years.
The Estate of AH COON -- In the Superior Court, last Monday, the matter
of the Estate of AH COON was taken up. It appears that deceased was a
resident of this county for some 17 years and amassed considerable money
by his industry. During the above period he made 2 trips to China where
his family resided, and invested his earning there. His last trip was
made in 1897 and prior to leaving here he deposited about $500 in the
Bank of Hollister. After his death, his widow wrote to a friend, AH HAY,
and enclosing the certificate of deposit, requested him to draw the money
and send it to her AH HAY, who claimed to be a cousin of deceased,
testified that AH COON had made a will before dying, in China [from 26
Jan issue -- Further evidence AH COON had died on the 10th day of Aug.
1899...]

Marcus S. WILMOT to Grace SCOTT, both of Monterey.
Died -- GALLAGHER -- at Hollister, Jan. 22, Patrick GALLAGHER, a native
of Ireland, aged 69 years, 10 months, 22 days. [Patrick GALLAGHER, an old
resident of this county, and a very estimable man, died here last Monday.
Some 70 years of age, he had been failing fast recently. He moved to this
county from San Jose some 30 years ago and farmed a short distance above
Emmett. The loss of his wife, a few years ago, prayed upon him greatly,
and he seemed to grow weaker ever since. He leaves behind him a large
family of grown children. The funeral took place last Wednesday afternoon
and was largely attended.]
Died -- COROTTO -- near Hollister, Jan. 25, G.B. COROTTO, a native of
California, aged 23 years, 6 months, 21 days.

Marriage License --
-Jan. 24; Marcus S. WILMOT to wed Grace SCOTT, both residents of
Monterey.
Death of Miss RINGOT -- from the Boston Beacon -- The news of the death
of Miss Maud Evelyn RINGOT, daughter of Mr. Joseph H. RINGOT, of this
city [Boston], comes like a shock to her many friends in this city. Miss
RINGOT died at the Hotel Majestic in New York City on Wednesday of
typhoid pneumonia. Miss RINGOT has been in New York since last August
with her mother. She came to Boston the latter part of November to attend
the Harvard-Yale game and at that time contracted a severe cold which
developed into an attack of pneumonia. Typhoid symptoms appeared and her
death was directly due to this disease. Miss RINGOT was born in San Juan,
California, Jan. 13, 1870...Miss RINGOTs body was brought to Boston
Thursday afternoon and taken to Forest Hills cemetery for interment.]

Married -- GARCIA-PANAGUA -- at Hollister, Jan. 30, by Hon. M.T. DOOLING,
Superior Judge; Trinidad GARCIA to Amada PANAGUA, both of Alvarado
District, Merced county.
Married -- PATTERSON-McCLURE -- AT Hollister, Jan. 31, by G.B.
MONTGOMERY, J.P.; Ben PATTERSON to Sarah A. McCLURE.
Died -- CLARK -- at Marysville, Jan. 20, G.P. CLARK, aged 80 years.
[Panoche Items -- The remains of George P. CLARK were brought from
Marysville last week and interred in Cherry Hill Cemetery.] [G.P. CLARK,
formerly of Panoche, and an old and highly respected resident of this
county, died at Marysville on the 20th ult., and was buried at Panoche on
the 23rd. Deceased was some 80 years of age, and in company with his son,
Geo. CLARK, and M.J. DeCAMPOS, who is married to his niece, he left
Panoche last summer to better his condition in the northern part of the
State. We have not been able to learn the cause of his death.]
Divorce -- Sarah E. GILBERT vs. Fred GILBERT divorce granted on ground of
extreme cruelty. [ Plaintiff testified to repeated acts of cruelty, such
as rough handling, blows and drawing a pistol, axe, etc., on the part of
defendant. GILBERT was a hard drinker and when angry vented his feelings
on his wife. Two children were the issue About 2 years ago defendant
disappeared and has not since been seen or heard from.]
**9 Feb issue --
Died -- JOSEPH -- at Hollister, Feb. 6, Frank JOSEPH, beloved son of
Mr.&Mrs. Enos JOSEPH, a native of California, aged 19 years.
Died -- TEBBETTS -- at San Francisco, Feb. 5, Annie B. TEBBETTS, beloved
wife of James H. TEBBETS, native of New Jersey, aged 38 years. [ great
shock to this community few were aware that she had gone to Dr. McNUTTs
Hospital in San Francisco to have a critical operation performed, which,
from a sudden attack of heart failure, resulted fatally The remains were
brought home last Tuesday evening, and the funeral took place on
Wednesday afternoon, from the Presbyterian Church.]
Died -- SMYTH -- at San Francisco, Feb. 5, Charles S. SMYTH, a native of
Smyth county, Virginia, aged 63 years. [ formerly Principal of the High
School of this place He was a member of San Benito Lodge, A.O.U.W.]
Died -- ARQUES -- at San Jose, Feb. 6, Ramon, son of Mr.&Mrs. ARQUES, a
native of California, aged 12 years. [ grandson of Judge G.B. MONTGOMERY,
of this place.]

provide.

Died -- BROMLEY -- at Hollister, Feb. 9, Tirzah A. BROMLEY, daughter of
Mr.&Mrs. Henry CHASE, of San Felipe, a native of California, aged 38
years, 2 mos., 21 days. [ a former and highly-respected resident of
Pacheco. She was a widow and leaves 4 children ]

Died -- SULLIVAN -- at Hollister, Feb. 22, John SULLIVAN, a native of
Kilkenny, Ireland, aged 79 years. [Deceased was an old resident of this
place and a honest, God-fearing man. He was an uncle to Patrick DOOLING,
Hon. M.T. DOOLING and Jas. A. KEARNE, from whose residence the funeral
took place, last Saturday morning.]

of San Juan, aged 41 years, 6 mos., 28 days.

Cass P. ASHCRAFT, aged 69 years, 10 months.
Died -- GIBSON -- at the County Hospital, Mar. 7, Robert GIBSON, a native
of California, aged 23 years.
Mrs. W.R. RADCLIFF, wife of the editor of the Watsonville Pajaronian,
died last Friday from the effects of an operation performed for
appendicitis

Married -- ELLIOTT-STONE -- in Hollister, Mar. 28, at the residence of
the brides parents, by Rev. J.W. BRYANT; Harold ELLIOTT to Miss May
STONE.
Died -- SARGENT -- at Sargents Station, Mar. 22, James P. SARGENT, a
native of New Hampshire, aged 77 years, 1 month, 11 days. [from the
Salinas Index -- Death of a Pioneer Citizen -- About a month ago James
P. SARGENT suffered a stroke of paralysis at his home near Gilroy and
never recovered He was a brother of the late Hon. B.V. SARGENT of
Monterey and R.C., J.L. and A.J. SARGENT of San Joaquin county. A widow
and 4 children survive him -- Misses Agnes and Ida SARGENT, Mrs. Ouida
GREEN and James A. SARGENT, all residing at the family home. The estate
left by the deceased is said to be worth $300,000. It was for him that
Sargents station, between Watsonville and Gilroy, was named born in
Grafton county, New Hampshire, Feb. 11, 1825...He was thrown upon his own
resources very early in life and in 1844 was at the head of a prosperous
business in Boston, later removing to Chicago. In 1849 he and his
brother, R.C. SARGENT, came across the plains to California, locating at
Weaverville, Trinity county In 1855 they abandoned the store entirely and
the 4 brothers -- J.P., R.C., J.L. and B.V., settled in San Joaquin
county where the town of Woodbridge now stands [more details of
business] ]
Died -- WRIGHT -- at Santa Clara, Mar. 26, George W. WRIGHT, a native of
New York, aged 80 years, 9 mos. [Deceased was a brother-in-law of Mr.
W.H. MOREY, of this place, and father of H.G. WRIGHT, editor of the Paso
Robles Leader]
Mark GOLDSTONE, a native of Great Britain, and Jose YRISARRI, a native of
Spain, were admitted to citizenship
