SHERIFF GORMLEY'S FATHER PASSES AWAY
Thomas Gormley, father of Sheriff William Gormley and of James and John Gormley of this city, died to-day at the Sisters' Hospital, following an illness of several months. He was 77 years of age, and his death had been expected as he had not been able to walk for several years. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
WOMAN REPORTS THEFT
OAK PARK, April 12 - Alta HAINES, 3300 Magnolia Avenue, reported to the police that she had been robbed of a purse containing an endorsed check and some coin late last evening. The purse was left in her milliners store on Magnolia Avenue. The police believe they have a good clue and expect to place the suspect under arrest late this afternoon.

Mistake, Not Burglary - The paintings belonging to Ernest MUSE and reported stolen from 706 J Street last week have been returned to Muse. Laborers sent to 706 J Street to clean out the place preparatory to tearing down to make room for the new Capital Bank building, saw the paintings and thought they had been left behind, so carted them away.

Vortriede to Plan Grounds - State Gardener William VORTRIEDE left for Los Angeles last Saturday, to plan a landscape gardening scheme for beautifying the ground of the Los Angeles Normal School. Vortriede recently offered, through Edward HYATT, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, to plan the grounds for any school in the State. The Los Angeles Normal is the third institution to take advantage of the offer.

Schools Open Again - All the schools of the city were opened to-day following a two weeks' Spring vacation. During the vacation the teachers held their institute in the High School.

Starting in Early - Manager Lee MAGEE, of the Brooklyn Federals, was notified to-day by President GILMORE he had been fined $50 and suspended for two days for rowdyism in the opening game at Brooklyn Saturday. Magee, after being put out of the game, returned to the coaching lines six times.

Dozen Lives in Balance - The fates of more than a dozen condemned murderers in the State Prison at Florence, Ariz., rests with the State Pardon Board, as the result of a decision by the State Supreme Court to-day, upholding the Board law adopted at the November election, and denying the contention of Governor HUNT that under the provisions of the Constitution he is empowered to pardon or reprieve.

On Trial for Robbery - The trial of James MULLIGAN, accused of robbery, is being tried before Superior Judge Malcolm C. GLENN to-day. Mulligan is accused of robing a laborer in a saloon.
Enter Not Guilty Pleas - Pleas of not guilty were entered by Filomena BASSACILLICE and Tommasco BASSACILLICE before Superior Judge GLENN to-say. They are accused of forgery. Their trials will be set Wednesday.

CONNELY - In this city, April 9, 1915, Cicero Clay Connely, beloved husband of the late Sarah Connely, brother of Joseph E. Connelly and Mildred A. WILSON of Arcade, uncle of Fred I. Wilson, Mrs. Henry KIEFER and Viola WILSON; a native of Illinois, aged 67 years, 2 months, 27 days. Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the home of Miller & Skelton, 1400 K Sts.
GORMLEY - In this city, April 12, 1915, Thomas Gormley, beloved father of William F., John J. and James T. GORMLEY of this city, and Mrs. M.H. CORCORAN of Benicia; a native of Ireland, aged 77 years. Friends are welcome at the home of W.F. Gormley, 720 H Street, till 6 o'clock Tuesday evening. Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock from Chapel at Sisters' Hospital, where requiem mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at 9 o'clock.
