Article Title: The Republican Advocate
Article Date: June 19 1873

Article Description: Two drownings, woman attacked, new postmaster, etc.

Article Text:

Case of Drowning: - On Saturday last two men residents of the town of Pembroke, met with a sudden death while washing sheep near Mogadore, in the town of Pembroke. We have been able to obtain but few particulars, but give such as we have. Mr Oscar Holcomb and his hired man, a newly arrived English emigrant named West, were washing the sheep of the former, when West got into a hole beyond his depth, and Holcomb went to his rescue; but in some way, he, too, got into the hold, and both were drowned.
We learn that Mr Holcomb left a life insurance policy for $5,000 for the benefit of his family.
*
Horrible Outrage in Albion: - On Wednesday evening last, a stranger stopped at the house of Mrs Wm. H. Gates, in Albion, and asked for a drink of water, which was furnished him, when the inhuman fiend struck her to the floor and stabbed her several times in the face and throat. She is now in a very precarious condition.
The scoundrel was arrested in Rochester and was confronted with his victim who recognized him as her assailant.

What is the matter with our "Town Clock?" Every now and then "on the strike" and then again it is silent for many days and sometimes weeks.
A Town Clock that is not only kept in order, but kept running, is a "very useful thing to have in one's family;" but one as eccentric as the Batavia one, given to striking one, two or three times over, is worse than no clock at all.
*
We inadvertently omitted to mention in our paper that Mr Walter H. Raymond, of Elba has been appointed Post-Master at that place, vice the late Wm C. Raymond, who resigned some time before his death. Mr R. the new Post Master, is a young man of a first-rate reputation, and his appointment was made at the request of the people of Elba, generally.
