Article Title: Mountain Echo
Article Date: August 16 1902

Article Description: Patton & Park Obits

Article Text:

Death of Patrick Patton.
Patrick Patton, an old resident of this place, died Monday
morning at 4:20 o'clock, after a short illness, at this
home in the lower end of town.

He had not been well since about July 1st, but no one
supposed the end was so near until just before his death,
which was caused by a complication of kidney troubles
and uric acid poisoning, his serious illness dating only
from Thursday.

The funeral took place Tuesday from his late home in this
place in to the Catholic church in Santa Cruz, where a
short service was performed, after which the interment
took place in the Catholic cemetery, near Santa Cruz.
Many friends and relatives of deceased accompanied the
remains from this place to the burial spot. Rev. M. A.
McKey, of St. Michael's church, officiated and the
following citizens acted as pall bearers: Samuel Hubbs,
Thos. Maddock, Jere W. Cunningham, Jacob Hartman, A. E.
Clifford and W. H. Dool.

Patrick Patton was born in Ireland on the 20th of March
1836. His parents emigrated to America when he was but
six weeks old and he was brought up in Philadelphia, Pa.
He came to California in the middle fifties and was
married to the now aged wife, who survives him, at
Gilroy, in 1860.

Mr. Patton has resided in Boulder Creek and vicinity for
23 years and was well known to our people. He was
industrious and quiet in his disposition and ever honest
and kindly in his treatment of all. Barring his one well
known fault, he was a good citizen in every way. He
leaves an only daughter, Mrs. I. T. Bloom, and his aged
wife, Mrs. Hannah Patton, as well as a number of grand-
children, all of this place, to mourn his loss.

Death of Wm. J. Park.
When Mr. M. Cahill land family returned to their home in
Sequoia from the funeral of Mrs. Cahill's brother, the
late Patrick Sinnott, last Sunday evening, it was to find
that death had again stricken near to them.

On the place for about four years had worked Wm. J. Park,
engaged generally, in woodchopping, and living in a
cabin by himself near the Cahill residence. In this
cabin, on the evening in question, was found the lifeless
body of Park, lying on his bed, the discovering being
made by Michael Crotty, also working for Mr. Cahill.

Park was an old man, aged about 65 years, and had been
on a spree since July 2nd last, he having done no work
since that time and drinking some every day. He had
passed away some time during Sunday, presumably from
excessive drinking. (incomplete article)
