Article Description: Lawrence Frank Makes 80 Dollars A Month In Milk
Article Text:
Nine miles west of Lefor is the 800 acre farm of Lawrence Frank, one of the best developed in that part of Stark county, and a place which is making him money year in and year out, he says.
Twenty five hogs and income of from $75 to $80 a month in cream, and real wheat yields from summer fallow land keep him from worrying about weather conditions the ordinary year.
A machine shed in which every implement on the place is kept under cover, a granary, a nice cottage and a good modern barn, all back up his words when he says he makes money.
One of the best answers to the question Does summer fallow Pay? is given by Mr Frank.
He seeded a quarter in one day. Part of it was summer fallow and that ran 19 and a half bushels to the acre, part was flax land and that ran 15 bushels to the acre; the rest was old land which ran 3 and a half bushels to the acre. Next year he will have more summer fallow, he says.
Whenhe started in he worked on his father's farm, and then with four horses and a wagon as a stake, he homesteaded. Today he has 48 cattle, grades mostly with a white face bull, his 800 acre farm and buildings and is well satisfied with life in Stark county. Rotating crops and summer fallow is his system. All his work is done with horse labor, and he wouldn't have a tractor on the farm, he stoutly maintains.
