A YOUTHFUL PRISONER
Twelve-Year-Old Samuel Lawrence Tries to Kill His Grandparents.
Bridgeton, N. J., Jan. 5. - Samuel LAWRENCE, twelve years old, who attempted to poison his grandparents by pouring paris green into a pan of milk, was indicted by the grand jury yesterday. The boy appeared in court later and pleaded guilty.
He is a little fellow, apparently illiterate, but answered the searching questions of Judge TRENCHARD without evasion. He said he had lived with his grandparents for two years, having been deserted by his father and mother.
He was punished by his grandfather on New Year night, he said, because of some fault found with him by his grandmother. He determined to "get even," and, obtained a quantity of paris green, poured it into a pan of milk to be used for supper. He refused to taste the milk during the meal, but both his grandparents drank it and were taken violently ill. Prompt medical attention prevented fatal results, and the boy was arrested. He will be sent to a reform school.
