Floyd POOLE died 28 Aug at a local hospital. He was born 16 Aug 1903 in a cabin on what is now P.G.& E. El Dorado Canal near Pacific House. His parents were Rufus and Estella POOLE, who weer early settlers in the region. They purchased Pacific House and the surrounding acreage in 1909. The family operated the business until 1946. Floyd was postmaster for 25 years. He was also the U.S. Weather Bureau's official reporter for the area for 47 years.
Throughout his lifetime, he was an active outdoorsman. He also helped in fish planting and forestry reading.
He was a charter member of the Placerville Ski Club, a charter member and past president of the Pollock Pines Rotary Club and a charter member of the Highway 50 Association, one of the organizer of the Highway 50 Wagon Train that began in 1949. With Milton D. MORRIS he ran the Highway 50 Wagon Train Trail Rides that was so succesful in introducing rifers to the back country lakes, streams and meadows before returning to the wagon train at night.
He was a member and past president of Native Sons of the Golden West.
He is survived by wife, Georgia of Pacific House; son Eugene of Folsom; daughter Nina of Kyburz; 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
