I'm sorry I don't have info on either generation of Ebenezer Newtons, other
than that George's father migrated to Mecklenburg Co., NC around 1767-69
where he purchased land. I suspect, but don't have proof, that my ancestor
Robert Newton may have a connection with George Newton. Robert was born in
Bucks Co., Penn. 10 Jan 1747, moved to Mecklenburg Co., NC in 1775
(according to his Revolutionary War Pension Application) where he fought in
the Revolution. In 1799 he moved to Buncombe Co., NC, where George had moved
2 years before. In 1805 Robert moved to Hopkins Co., Ky, where he died 7
Sept 1835.
I understand one of George's brothers was John Newton. Robert named one of
his sons John. Yes, they're common names, but naming patterns were more
often than not based on family connections. William is another name both
families have in common.
Newton Academy in Asheville was named after George Newton. In Hopkins,
Christian, and Logan counties in Kentucky, a Newton Academy purchased
thousands of acres of land. I have tried to make connections for years; a
couple of board members have names in common with residents in Buncombe Co.,
but that's as far as I've gotten.
About 15 years ago I visited the library in Shelbyville, Tenn. Unfortunately
I didn't visit George's gravesite. I hope to return there some day.
I expect that you have a copy of George's portrait and a newspaper account
of his final days. From all accounts he was a good and well-respected man.
You should be proud to claim him as an ancestor.
I wish you good luck on your search. Let me know if I can help. Do you know
of a Newton family reunion? I'd love to attend one.

Mary Polly McCall on 19 Mar 1794. I know that his parents were Ebenezer
Newton and Elizabeth Buchanan and that Ebenezer's parents were Ebenezer
Newton and Anne Parke. Does anyone have any more info than this? Thanks,
