RICHARD PRESTON BISHOP BCLC. Born 17 September, 1884 in Starcross, Devon;

officer with British Admiralty 1906-1907; obtained his commission as a BC Land Surveyor in 1911; engaged in surveys along longitude 124 near Lillooet in 1912, along latitude 53 in 1913, and in the Cariboo north of Quesnel in 1915. He served as a Captain in WWI, returning to resume surveying duties in B.C. He died in Victoria, February 13, 1954.
There is a career biography in BC Land Surveyors' Annual Report 1955.
A British Columbia River (BISHOP River) was named for him, adopted 6 May, 1924.""
