Sad day indeed! And $130 for sneakers! Is this a misprint - you mean
$30., don't you. Did the sneakers have lights on 'em, foghorns and
compass, too.
Feeling really sorry for the kids in Newfoundland!

Last Saturday September 19, 1998 the only school in Gaultois, an
isolated community on the Southcoast burned down. It is believed to
be
an electrical fire. The school was 22 years old and about 100
students
attended the school. There is no decision made as of now as to
where the
students will be going to school. Gaultois is 3 miles by boat to
Hermitage. Some students had personal belongings in the school.
One
youth informed me that he had just purchased a new pair of sneakers
worth $130 and they were burned in the fire along with many new
books
that were just bought. I do not think that anything was salvagable. A
sad day for people in this small community.
For me personally this was a great loss as well. My school records as
well as many others dating back to the 1950's were destroyed in the
fire. Certainly something to think about when doing research and
storing
information.
