Welcome to the list! I'm just catching up on my reading.

I thought I remember reading in one of the Biographies that Edward
Pynn left Newfoundland after losing his ships to a fire in Harbor
Grace. I'm not sure when the fire occurred. I thought it was a year
or two before he left in 1849. It may be possible that they picked
Wisconsin because that was where the land grants were being given away
at that time?
