These are the old Department of Public Health and Welfare books. In the
1940's the government of the day became concerned that records were
disappearing, mainly due to fires. So they ask each parish to transcribe
their records up to 1892 (when civil registration started) and send it to
St.John's. They were offered the incentive of $.10 per name. Many of the
parishes did this and we can now view these books at the Provincial
Archives (PANL). Some refer to these books as the "long black ones". For
some parishes this is the only record available at PANL but many parishes
(especially the Roman Catholic) did not provide this information. It must
be remembered that these are someone else'e interpretation of the original
parish records and some books contain alot of errors. Also not all
information that were in the original registers was transcribed into the
DPHW books so it is wise to use the original records whenevr possible. 26D
is the Cathedral of St. John the baptist in St.John's and contains
marriages 1835-1891. 54 is Northen Bay Roman Catholic baptisms 1838-1861.

These are the Colonial Office Records and the numbers correspond to the
coding system. The coding system is not very defined and contains multiple
entries, not all of the genealogical nature.

>NFLD Archives BRC = What does the "B" stand for

This pertains to the Parish Records collection at PANL. It was once refered
to as the Newfoundland Archives. The BRC stands for the parish, in this
case the Basilica Roman Catholic ie the Roman Catholic Basilia in
St.John's. This was a code used by Seary.

>(Dillon) = Does this refer to a book author?

Yes this is an author. Seary lists in his book the corresponding book/article
