To the List,
Quite a few people wanted this info., so here it is.
To request Military records, go to
http://www.archives.ca/exec/naweb.dll?fs&020203&e&top&0 and then print out a
request form from the link. Fill out the request form with as much info.
that you have. You can then FAX it to them using the Fax # specified. I
think that it costs 10 cents per page with a $40 deposit (which can be
waived if you are using a credit card). I suggest that you use a credit
card to save time. When I requested my documents, I put my Credit Card #
and Expiry Date on the coversheet. About 2 weeks later, I received a letter
with some specifics and verification. I then Faxed in what I wanted and
then watched the mail (aren't we always doing that?) You can also receive a
very nice copy of the actual page from the 'Book of Remembrance' that is
suitable for framing (if the person is in the book). You can search the War
Memorials at
http://www.vac-acc.gc.ca/general/sub.cfm?source=collections/virtualmem . If
the person is in the 'Book', I suggest requesting the page. Click on 'Order
Form' at this link
http://www.vac-acc.gc.ca/general/sub.cfm?source=collections/books to order
the 'Book of Remembrance' papers. They are free. It also included a very
nice letter saying how proud they were (and how proud we should be)of him,
and they appreciated his sacfifice (also siutable for framing, would look
very nice next to the other page).
Here is the address and FAX #
Personnel Records Unit
National Archives of Canada
395 Wellington Street
Ottowa, Ontario
K1A 0N3
FAX: (613) 947-8456
I would like to thank Raelene Earle and Dan Breen for supplying me with
these links when I needed them, which has allowed me to share them with you.
Chris
P.S.
You can also request records for WW II, but they are pretty
restricted. You must be able to prove that you are next-of-kin, and that
the person is deceased. The actual specifics are at the link above (or
somewhere close to it).
