The quote below concerning the NL Coat of Arms perhaps could
include this note: The original Coat of Arms was granted to the
KIRKE family of Newfoundland in 1637. The accompaning Plantation
land grant was given to the family as a reward for their earlier
efforts of 1629 in capturing Quebec from the FRENCH.
