The meeting of the New Church Building Committee was held on 2 November 1911
in the Women's Association room at 8 pm, the Rector Rev. J.O. Britnell
presiding.
Present were:William Furze, Secretary; W. Earle Treasure, James Jones, John
Jones, Titus Jones, Thomas Simms, Thomas Humphries, W.G.Irish, W.H. Simms,
S.J. Bishop, Josiah Snow and Ezekiel Ludlow.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted on motion from Mr.
W.H.Simms, seconded by Mr. Thomas Simms. Proposed by Mr James Jones that Mr
Andrew Loder be made a member of the committee and be made one of the
collectors for the year. The proposal was seconded by Mr. W.Earle and
carried.
Mr Furze then tended his resignation as Secretary of the New Church Building
fund owing to the press of business. His resignation was accepted with an
expression of appreciation for the work he had done. On a motion by Mr. W.G.
Irish, seconded by Mr. Ezekiel Ludlow that Mr. S.J. Bishop be appointed
secretary, motion carried.
A proposal by Mr.W. Earle that we authorize the Chairman to write the
Colonial Secretary to ask him to instruct the Fogo Road Board to alter the
road in front of the Meek Memorial Building as petitioned by the Fogo Church
People. The proposal was seconded by Mr.James Jones and carried. It was also
proposed that a start be made at the new church and the foundation of the
new church be of concrete, it was seconded by Mr. Furze and carried.
Proposed by Mr. Earle that the secretary write Rev. Tulk of Belleoram for
information concerning the plans of their church and after receipt of his
letter the secretary was to call another meeting. This was seconded by Mr.
W.H.Simms and carried.
The meeting closed at 10 pm with prayer
