The only information I have is what was told to me from my father in law
who is a direct desendant of John Prosper. He came from St Malo France
because he thought he killed the baker when he hit him in the head with a
stale loaf of bread. He jumped on a ship and headed to Nfld, to escape
jail, and when he landed in Port a Basques, he changed his name to John
Prosper. He did marry and had quite a large family. Years later, a friend
of his came to Nfld, and told him the baker was still selling stale bread
and no one was looking for him. At that time his first wife had died. He
picked up his last name again and married again, and settled in the Bay of
Islands. He then had more children, one of which was William Compagnon who
married Norah Hall and they settled on Woods Island. I have been looking
for more information myself, so if you find any, I would appriciate it if
you kept me in mind. I am married to Caryl Compagnon who is Ted
Compagnon's daughter. Ted is Norah a!
nd William's son. Thank you and I hope this helps.
