Hi I know this is a little late but Bert Rolls asked about Newfies in
Brooklyn. My grandparents lived all over Sunset park and eventually settled
in Flagg Court in Bay Ridge which is hwere I still live today. There were a
dozen Newfie ladies who lived inthe building who all lived well into their
nineties that my family had a certain affinity to. If you would like names
and dates I can provide them. Both the Scandanavians and the Newfies are a
dying breed in Brooklyn. All choosing the suburbs as their home. Sunset
Park is now a small version of Chinatown and Bay Ridge is a small version of
Moscow and the West Bank. However, Leskes bakery is still alive as are some
of the older fish and meat markets some of you may remember. Drop me a line
if you would like some more information. katie walters
