I don't know a whole lot about my part of the family yet, but Bertha Simms
and John Taylor lived in St. John's, Newfoundland, until John was lost at
sea sometime around 1910. John Taylor was a sea captain, and was supposedly
born in England. After John's death, Bertha moved to Ohio with her
children. These were Marion (3/21/1901-1981), my great-grandmother Jessie
(3/13/1904-8/05/2001), Reginald (11/27/1906-9/21/1965), and Harold (abt.
1908-?). Bertha marrie Frank Benjmin in Geauga County, but I don't know a
nything about their marriage. Jessie moved to Lake County and married
George Balch in 1922, and Bertha eventually moved in with them until her
death in 1941. Bertha, Jessie, Marion, and Reginald are all buried in
Madison, Lake County.
