Thanks for looking in. I'm starting a little database about all the Dowdens
in Newfoundland, the earlier the better. When I've gone through all the
sources I can get for free, I'll send you a list of all the Placentia Bay
Dowdens and maybe you can find your own family in it. Right now they're:
one family from Ragged Islands, one from Burnt Island (I think that's Burin
Peninsula), one from Best's Harbour, three from Jean de Gaunt, three from
Rock Island, one from Fox Cove. As far as I know, the Placentia BAy
Dowdens are unrelated to the Bonavista Bay Dowdens, though we may have
links to Conception Bay settlements. This all came from ngb files open to
the public, and some information from the website of Thomas Coles, who
doesn't want to answer his email. Last note: this is not for profit, any of
it. Anything I get will be posted for public benefit as soon as as it's
worth publishing.
