Death Notices (05/13/03)
LOOSEMORE, Gerald Norbert, C.D. Gerald (Jerry) Norbert Loosemore. The family
announces with sorrow his passing on May 1, 2003 in his 64th year at his
home in Little Current, Manitoulin Island. He was born in Killarney to the
late Norbert and Ruby (Patterson) Loosemore and attended St. John de Brebeuf
School and Little Current High School prior to joining the Royal Canadian
Signal Corps in 1959. After a 25-year career, he retired from the Canadian
Armed Forces Communications Command with the rank of Master Warrant Officer
and subsequently joined the Communications Security Establishment for an
additional thirteen years during which he was instrumental in the
modernization of the NORAD communication system. Jerry was made Scouter in
1978; a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch #177; and he had an extensive
repertoire of Newfoundland folk music. He returned to the Manitoulin Island
to pursue his interest in genealogy. He is survived by his wife, the former
Evelyn Peck, his son Christopher (Gayelene), and daughter Melissa (Donnie)
Clark. He will be dearly missed by his sister Patricia and brothers Peter
(Vivian), Harold (Laurine), Michael (Ann), and James (Bernice). He will be
lovingly remembered by his mother-in-law Erma Peck, sisters-in-law Phyllis
Marshall, Beverly (Everett) Morphet, and brothers-in-law Iliff (Jane) Peck
and Warren (Gail) Peck. He is also survived by nieces, nephews,
great-nieces, and great-nephews. Jerry will be remembered by his family and
friends for his generosity, his storytelling, and his sense of humour. A
memorial service celebrating his life will be officiated by Mr. D.J.
Larouche, at the graveside at the the St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery, North
Chanel Drive, Little Current, on Saturday, May 17th, 2003 at 3 p.m., with
Interment.

GILL, Ivy In Loving Memory Peacefully with her family by her side at the
Ottawa General Hospital on Monday, May 12, 2003. Ivy Gill (nee Bonnell) of
Iroquois, Ontario, in her 70th year. Leaving to give thanks for her life and
the joy she brought to theirs are her husband of 45 years Arthur Gill and
their children Valerie Ryan (Mike) of Iroquois, Roma Glynn (Pat) of
Carseland, Alberta, Cindy Gill of Ottawa and Gerry Gill (Angie Brazier) of
Stittsville; her grandchildren Lorna, Andy, Dorianne, Shea, Rebecca, Clint
and Lee; and her great-grandchildren Jordon and Jenna. Predeceased by her
parents Leo and Hannah Bonnell of Lamaline, Newfoundland and siblings Reg,
Jessie, Lou, Bert and Max. Loving sister of Joyce Rogers, Ella Pitman and
Bob Bonnell. Also predeceased by her beloved step-mother Julie Bonnell. Dear
half sister of Churchill Bonnell, Tom Bonnell, Lowell Bonnell, Vera Bonnell,
Anna Buffett, George Bonnell, Christie Lovell, and Edwin Bonnell. Special
sister-in-law of Bernice Bonnell and Beatty Bonnell. She will be greatly
missed by all that had the good fortune to know her. A memorial service will
be held at the Iroquois United Church, 2 Elizabeth Dr., on Friday, May 16,
at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations would be welcomed to the Iroquois
United Church Window Fund or the charity of your choice. Arrangements
entrusted to the Marsden McLaughlin Funeral Home, Iroquois (613-652-4452).

THOMAS, Ethel Peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on May 16, 2003,
Ethel Thomas age 73. Former wife and friend of William Thomas. Loving mother
of Glen, Dale (Johanne), Helen (Tom Chateauvert), Ken and Gary (Cairine).
Dear grandmother of Stephanie, Andrea (their mother Joan), Matthew, William,
Jared, Cameron and Brennan. Ethel will be fondly remembered by many friends
as well as her brother and sisters and their families in her native
Newfoundland. A special thanks to the staff at the Ottawa Hospital General
Campus Intensive Care Unit. A Service in Memory of Mrs. Thomas will be held
Monday in the Chapel of the Kelly Funeral Home, 1255 Walkley Road (east of
Bank) at 11 a.m. In memoriam donations to the Lung Association
Ottawa-Carleton Region appreciated.

KIRK, Elsie Harriett (nee Parmiter) born Topsail, Newfoundland May 9, 1922.
She passed away peacefully in Toronto May 21, 2003 in her 82nd year. Elsie
was raised in Regina, Sask. and lived all her adult life in Ottawa. Dearly
loved wife of the late David Kirk. Survived by daughter Lesley (and Roy
Savage), granddaughters Sarah (and Jose Luis Sanchez) and Amanda (Clyne),
great granddaughter Avila and brother Edgar Parmiter of St. John's, Nfld.
Elsie will be remembered for her elegance, her sharp intellect and her
lifelong interest in art and ideas. Her passion was reading and she read a
wide range of books from many countries and many disciplines. She was also a
supporter of arts, charitable and co-operative organizations. Friends
wishing to honor Elsie's memory could make a donation to a charity or
community organization of their choice. Private family interment of ashes
will take place later this year.

MOONEY, Gilles 1938 - 2003 Passed away on Thursday, May 29th, 2003, at the
age of 64. Predeceased by his parents, Thomas Mooney and Bernadette Gratton,

Henry (Gloria) of Ottawa; his sisters: Monique Mooney of Hull, Marie (Denis
Hupe) of Ottawa and Helene (Paul Desjardins) of Newfoundland; also survived

JOHNSTONE, Ann Suddenly in hospital, on Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at the age
of 71. Daughter of the late Nora Johnstone (nee Ruttle), of Montreal and the
late James Ainsworth Johnstone of Howick, Quebec. Sister of Neil (Jacque) of
Geneva, Rick (Bonnie) of Newfoundland and Christine Arlett of Newfoundland.
Also leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews and dear friends. Graduate of
Ecolint and University of Geneva. Retired from the Departments of Transport
and Justice. Formerly editor of Saturday Night and a Barrister from the
Middle Temple, England. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 14
at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McEvoy Shields Funeral Home, 235 Kent St.,

EBSARY, Samuel Henry (WWII VETERAN, EX-RAF-POW) Passed away peacefully on
June 20, 2003, at the Ottawa General Hospital, in his 85th year. Beloved
husband of Joan. Dear father of Pauline, John (Denise), Sally (Andrew) and
Michael (Cathy). Proud grandfather of Paul, Christine, Adrian, Sean, Sophie,
Tara, Shannon, Cooper, Charlotte and Caitlin. Dear brother of Alice, Cass,
Margaret and the late Elvina all of Newfoundland. Thanks to the staff at the
Perley Rideau Veteran's Health Centre Ottawa 2 East for their support and
care. Thanks also to the staff on 61 East at the Ottawa General Hospital. A
service will be held at the Perley Rideau Veteran's Health Centre at a later

courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, June 26, 2003, age 62 years.
Beloved husband of Roselyn Vincent. Loving father of Marie and Sean. Much
loved brother of Frank (Jean), Joan, Brenda, Chris (Pat), Mary (Philip) and
Trisha (Robert). He will also be greatly missed by his mother-in-law Ruth

BRADBURY, Margaret Paula (nee Brophy) Peacefully in Carleton Lodge
Retirement Home, Friday, July 4, 2003 in her 88th year. Born in St. John's,
Newfoundland. Wife of the late Louis Bradbury. Much loved mother of Robert
and Jeannie wife of K. Wayne Crawford. Predeceased by daughter Paula and son
Bill. Will be sadly missed by her 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

son of Mrs. Retta Barr of Pakenham and of the late Herbert Barr. Beloved
husband and best friend of Jean (nee Cavanagh). Dearly loved father of
Steven, his wife Cara and their children Rylee and Cameron; Stacie
Barr-Legree, her husband Terry and their son Cody; Shelley Brown, her
husband Curtis and their children Cassidy and Jaxson. Dear brother of Bert
Barr (Daphne) of Paradise, Newfoundland and Claude Barr (Bonnie) of London,
