WALKER, Melva Clara
WALKER, Melva Clara - 82, New Minas, Kings Co., passed away Saturday, July
3, 2004, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Chance Cove, NL,
she was a daughter of the late George and Rebecca (Guy) Peddle. She was
employed as a cashier at the former Dominion Store, Kentville for many
years. She had been active with Meals on Wheels, Seniors Bowling at
Fairlanes Bowling Centre, New Minas and was an active supporter of the
Kidney Foundation, who have named the Melva C. Walker Kings Chapter in her
honour. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is
survived by daughter, Donna Walker, New Minas; daughter-in-law, Mary Walker
(Bob White), Halifax; chosen daughter, Lesley (Wayne) Hopkins, New Minas;
grandchildren, Hale, Alanna and Erin, all of Halifax; chosen grandson,
Thomas, New Minas; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her
husband, William; son, David; sisters, Bertha Dunphy and Mary Ann Peddle;
brothers, George, Charles and Jack; chosen grandson, Nicholas. Visitation
will be held from 7-9 p.m. today in W.C. Hiltz/White Family Funeral Home,
Kentville, where a funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, Rev. Robert
Billings officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later
date in Oak Grove Cemetery, Kentville. "Don't take them to heaven, 'cause
heaven knows we need them here". Please sign your donor card. Family flowers
only by request. Donations in memory may be made to Kidney Foundation of
Canada, Nova Scotia Branch - Melva C. Walker Kings Chapter. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to W.C. Hiltz/White Family Funeral Home,
Kentville.
