DEATHS


HORWOOD, Charles Duke
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Duke Horwood, age
77, of Corner Brook announce his passing on Monday, January 24, 2005, at
the Health Science Complex in St. John's, NL. He will be greatly missed
by his loving wife of 52 years, Myrtle; his four children: Beverley
Ghobrial of Toronto, Debbie Skinner (Charles) of Pasadena, Glenn Horwood
of Calgary, and Zona Rodden (Robert) of St. John's; his six precious
grandchildren: Aaron, Chrissy, Steven (Melissa), Lucas, Benjamin and
Jacob; two sisters: Lillian Critch (Eric) of Moreton's Harbour and Edna
English of Stephenville; two brothers: Eric (Shirley) and Lewis (Rowena)
of Grand Falls-Windsor; as well as a large circle of nephews, nieces and
friends. Cremation has taken place. Funeral is to take place on Friday,
January 28, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Salvation Army Temple in Corner Brook,
NL. No flowers by request. Donations in his memory may be made to a

MACDONALD, Lillian Martha
Lillian Martha MacDonald, 77, of Brentwood and formerly of Corner Brook,
Newfoundland, passed away January 24, 2005 in Colchester Regional
Hospital, Truro. Born in St. John's, Newfoundland, she was a daughter of
the late Neil and Ethel (Wight) Patrick. She is survived by daughters,
Trish (Peter) Bekkers, Shubenacadie; Ann MacDonald (Paul Hodgson),
Guelph, Ontario; grandchildren: Alex, William, Jenna; sister Pat (Jerry)
Cunningham, Antigonish; niece Pam Cunningham, Antigonish; nephews: Doug
Cunningham, Maine; David Patrick, Nunavut. She was predeceased by a
brother Neil Patrick. No visitation by request. A memorial service will
be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512
Willow Street with Deacon Wilfred Boudreau officiating. Interment at a
later date in Humber Valley United Church Cemetery, Pasadena,
Newfoundland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and
Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia Lung Association or
the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro.


MARTIN, Catherine Grace
Corner Brook, NL
Passed away peacefully on Monday, January 24, 2005 following a lengthy
illness, at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Grace Martin (nee
Keough) at the age of 69 years. Left to mourn are her; loving husband of
53 years, Clarke; five daughters: Gwen (David) Bartlett, Bobbi Gash,
Peggy (Dan) Sacrey, Sue, Jackie (Tony) Duffney; one son Roger (Debbie);
step-father Cyril Bennett; eight grandchildren: Grace, Bobbie Dawn, Jim,
Jason, Bobby, Catherine, Kenny and Luke; brother-in-law Gordon (Jo-Ann)
Martin, son-in-law Ken Dunphy and a large circle of relatives and
friends. Predeceased by her mother Margaret Bennett; father Jack Keough
and son-in-law Jim Gash. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, 218
Curling Street on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service
will be held on Thursday, January 27th at 10:30 a.m. from Curling
Memorial United Church, Mrs. Mary Brinson officiating. Interment to
follow at Mt. Patricia Chapel. As expressions of sympathy, flowers
graciously accepted or donations may be made to the Western Memorial

WATSON, Thomas A.

It is with sadness that the family of the late Thomas Watson announce
his passing at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre on Monday,
January 24, 2005 at the age of 96. He leaves to mourn children: Rachel,
Jeanetta (Gil), Leo (Bride), Stephenville Crossing, Nigel (Rita),
Stephenville, Rhona (Bob), Corner Brook; brothers: James (Annie), Corner
Brook, Duncan, Johns Beach; sisters: Mary (Don) Buckle, Corner Brook,
Georgina, Johns Beach; 25 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; 2 great
great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and
friends. He is predeceased by wife Annie; daughter Donna; brothers:
George, Henry; sisters: Susan and Bertha; parents Martha Samms and
Lucius Watson. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, West Street,
Stephenville Crossing on Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday 10
a.m. - 12 noon. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place on
Thursday, January 27th at 2:00 p.m. from the Roman Catholic Church of
the Assumption, Stephenville Crossing with Father Gerard Patry
officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery, Brook Street.

SMITH, Anne Theresa (nee Tobin)
Deer Lake, NL
1937 - 2005
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Anne Theresa Smith
announce her passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner
Brook on Monday, January 24th, 2005 at the age of 67 years following a
courageous and lengthy battle with congestive heart failure. Leaving to
mourn her loving and devoted husband of 46 years, Ronald T. Deer Lake;
sons: Lindell (Nonia), Deer Lake and Ronnie (Maureen), Thunder Bay,
Ontario; beloved grandchildren: Stephanie, Katelin, Deer Lake and
Stephen, Alberta; sister Alice Ewing; brothers: George (Eliza), David
and Nicholas all of Corner Brook, Fred (June), Montreal; special friend
Diane Parsons, Deer Lake. As well as a large circle of nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents John T.
and Anne Tobin, brothers Ralph, Patrick Vincent and Joseph. Friends may
visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, 10 Clinic Drive, Deer Lake today,
Wednesday from the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be
held on Thursday, January 27th at 2:00 p.m. from the Immaculate
Conception Roman Catholic Church with Father John Peddle officiating.
Interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Wight's Road. As

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Frank D. French
announce his passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville
on Sunday, January 23, 2005 at the age of 88 years. He will be sadly
missed by his loving wife, Ethel and four sons: Phil (Marg) of
Stephenville, Desmond (Cecelia) of Waverley, Nova Scotia, Keith of
Stephenville, Sam of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, one daughter, Dianne
(Gerard) Clark of Aurora, Ontario and one brother, William (Greta) of
Coley's Point, two sisters, Vera Baird of Long Pond, Manuels, Carrie
(Robert) Duffett of St. Phillips, Conception Bay, ten grandchildren, six
great grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. He was
predeceased by his granddaughter, Phileppa. Friends may call at
Russell's Funeral Home, 39 Queen Street, Stephenville on Wednesday from
2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Thursday, January
27th at 2:00 p.m. at Russell's Funeral Home Chapel, 39 Queen Street,
Stephenville with Rev. E. Laldin officiating. Interment will take place
in the Hillside Interfaith Cemetery, Hansen Highway, Stephenville. As
expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations to the St.
Angustine's Anglican Church Memorial Fund would be greatly appreciated.
