MCGRATH, LEO St. Juliens
Passed away on May 14, 2005 at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, Leo McGrath of St.
Juliens in his 68th year. Leaving to mourn wife Ida; sons Don (Rhonda), Eddie (Sandra), Fred
(Jackie) and Wilbert (Jose); daughters Annie (Wade), Belle (Phillip), Eileen (Junior), Joan
(Roland), Joyce (Lorne), Marie (Wilf) and Mary (Jerry); brothers Tim (Nora) and Ambrose
(Maureen); sisters Genevieve and Maude (Jack); 28 grandchildren as well as a large circle of
other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father Joseph, mother Isabella and brother
John-Joe. Visitation took place at the Roman Catholic Church in St. Juliens from where the
funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17 with Fr. Jim Robertson officiating.
Interment followed in the church cemetery. Flowers were graciously accepted or donations may
be made to a charity of ones choice. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre
Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.
PENNEY, ROY MARTIN Port Hope Simpson
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Roy Penney announce his passing on
Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at John M. Gray Centre, St. Anthony at 82 years of age. He leaves to
mourn his wife Hazel; children Ivy (George), Jean (Norman), Lydia (Robert), Nita, Lloyd,
Wilfred (Marlene), Miriam (Melvin), Oliver (Leah), John, Ada (Sandy) and Clayton (Gaye); son-
in-law Nigel; daughter-in-law Sandy; 39 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; sisters
Rachel, Sarah and Daisy; brothers Thomas, Barton, George and James, as well as a large circle of
other relatives and friends. His daughter Peggy Earle, son Martin, mother Annie, father George,
sister Gladys and brother John predeceased him. Visitation took place at the Pentecostal Church
in Port Hope Simpson from where the funeral service was held on Sunday, May 15 with Pastor
Craig Giles officiating. Interment followed in the Calvary Pentecostal Cemetery. Funeral
arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Wilfred Hutchings,
funeral director.
PATEY, LLEWELLYN NELSON River of Ponds May 22, 1941 - May 16, 2005
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Llewellyn Nelson Patey announce his passing
at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre in Port Saunders on Monday, May 16, 2005 at the age of 63
years. He will be sadly missed by his loving family, his mother and father Maisie and Amos
Patey of River of Ponds; sons Gregory (Sharon) of Bedford, Nova Scotia and Shawn of Toronto,
Ontario; grandchildren Aaron and Keegan; brother Derek (Selma) of River of Ponds and sisters
Emma (Claude) Guinchard, Faye (Harvey) Patey, Daisy (Francis) Mahar, Christine Patey and
Sadie Patey, all of River of Ponds, as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews, other
relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father Harrison Patey. The family received
friends at St. Peters Anglican Church in River of Ponds on Wednesday, from where the funeral
service was held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 20, 2005. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to
Parsons Funeral Home, 63 North Main Street, Deer Lake. Forever in our hearts. A friend indeed
in our time of need
SAMSON, JAMES HAYWARD River of Ponds
It is with great sadness that the family of the late James Samson announce his passing at Rufus
Guinchard Health Centre in Port Saunders on Thursday, May 12, 2005 at the age of 88 years.
Leaving to mourn his wife Mary; children Deon (Christine) of River of Ponds, Jean (Jimmy)
Preshyon of Deer Lake, Morris (Sheila) of River of Ponds, Jerry (Rosalind) of Daniels Harbour,
Eunice (Herb) Tucker of Main Brook, Dolly (Melvin) Lavers of Port Saunders, Vera (Wilfred)
Patey, Lloyd (Anne), James Jr. and Effie (Harold) House, all of River of Ponds; 27
grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister Lucy (Earle) Patey of River of Ponds, and a large
circle of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife Dorothy, sons Harvey
and Philip, parents John and Dorcas Samson, brothers Ruben and Francis. The family received
friends at Trinity Pentecostal Church in River of Ponds on Friday and Saturday from where the
funeral service took place on Sunday, May 15 with Pastor Jeff Green officiating. Interment
followed in the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy flowers were graciously accepted.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatres Funeral Home, Port au Choix.
COMPTON, SABINA St. Lunaire-Griquet Nov 28, 1914- May 11, 2005
Passed peacefully away at John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony on May 11, 2005 in her 90th year.
Sabina leaves to mourn her son Randy (Marie) and grandson Aaron of Thompson, Manitoba and
granddaughter Hannah of Brandon, Manitoba; daughter Ethel and family of Main Brook. She
was predeceased by her husband William, parents George and Myrtle Patey, brothers Garland
and Hayward and sister Ettie. Visitation took place at the Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle in St.
Lunaire- Griquet from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 15 with
Pastor Hayward Primmer officiating. Flowers were graciously accepted or donations may be
made to a charity of ones choice. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral

APPLIN, RICHARD HENRY Eddies Cove East
Passed away on May 14, 2005 at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, Richard Henry
Applin of Eddies Cove East in his 68th year. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of memories his
wife Rachel Applin (Coates); son Derek (Susan); grandsons Christopher (Sheena) and Casey;
brother William (Dulcie); sisters Mary Elizabeth Parrill (John), Keziah Evans (William), Irene
Taylor (Lawrence), Sybil Taylor (the late Roland), Naomi Hughes (Hubert), Donna Hughes
(Calvin) and Edna Taylor (the late Walter); brothers-in-law Stanley Coates (Amy) and Steadman
Coates (Marina); sister-in-law Olga Whalen (Roland) as well as a circle of other relatives and
friends. Visitation took place at the Anglican Church in Lower Cove from where the funeral
service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17 with Rev. Jean Brenton-Hickman officiating.
Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M.
Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Wilfred Hutchings, funeral director.
GOULD, ANDREW Bear Cove
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Andrew Gould announce his passing on Friday,
May 13, 2005 at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony in the presence of his family. He was
in his 90th year. Leaving to mourn his children Max (Blanche) of Stephenville, Rita (Ken)
Drover of Charlottetown, Bonavista Bay, Virtue (Abe) Moores of Flowers Cove, Don (Elizabeth)
and Lavinia Hughes, both of Bear Cove and Paschel (Evelyn) of Alberta; 13 grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; sister Mary Genge Bowers of Pasadena; brother Sam Gould of Bear Cove,
and a large circle of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Bridget in
2001. The family received friends at St. Boniface Anglican Church in Bear Cove on Saturday and
Sunday from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 16 with Rev. Steve
Maki officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy,
flowers were graciously accepted. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatres Funeral
Home, Port au Choix.
