Colin et al,

Here is an interesting story of William Lund and Rachel Holden. From the
History of Merrimack NH Vol. 1

During the year 1724, William Lund was captured by the Indians and taken to
Canada. His wife paid the ransom and was known to say, "He is mine for I
have bought him."

Boston, January 16th 1724-25
Received of Mrs Rachell Lund, of Dunstable, Sixty Pound Credditt; which she
leaves with me, in consideration of my giving my Letter of Credit to Lieut.
Joseph Blanchard, on Col. John Schuyler, att Albany. Said Blanchard being
bound to Canada, for to get Mrs. Lund's husband redeemed from the
indians. And if he do not make use of my Credditt above, to the value of
the sum she leaves with me, I promise to repay her the same.
