Can someone give me a definitive answer to the question of what was the
legal age that a man could be sued in court in the 1700s? I'm trying to figure
out the approximate birth date for William Wallingford of Newington and
Rochester who first appears in the records when he was sued in court on 12
November 1734. He was sued to collect on an overdue note for purchasing
household goods in a local shop. Did he have to be at least 21 at the time, or
was the legal age for such things younger?

Thanks,

Bill Teschek
