Dear List:

I like Christine's idea about posting our "Most Wanted" people. Here's
mine!

Hannah SMITH, born in Berwick, Maine, 5 May 1738 (calculated from her
age at death), died in Lebanon, Maine, 12 April 1844, aged nearly 106
years. She married first in Berwick, 21 January 1760, as his second
wife, Paul WENTWORTH, baptized Berwick 2 October 1737, died there in
April 1783. Hannah married second, in Berwick, 14 January 1785, Aaron
TIBBETTS, and lived with him in Lebanon. I descend from Hannah and her
first husband, Paul Wentworth.

The excellent Wentworth genealogy states that Hannah was a daughter of
"Daniel Smith of Berwick" (Vol. 2, p. 4). The only Daniel Smith I can
find, who looks at all promising, is one who appears just once in a land
record dated 12 July 1737, acknowledged the same day, and recorded the
same day, where Daniel Smith of Berwick, laborer, and his wife, Lydia,
sell Lot 21 in the "new Township lately laid out Adjoining to the
Township of Berwick" [whatever that means] to Gershom Downs and Thomas
Downs Jr. of Dover, N.H., husbandmen (York Deeds, 18:358-359). No hint
of what happened to them after that, or who Lydia was.

Hannah's children from her marriage to Paul Wentworth were, in order:
Benjamin; John; George; Daniel; Lydia; Hannah (my line); Patience; and
Mercy. Some of these names might be a clue, but so far I have not made
a connection.

Any clues would be gratefully received! Also, where is that "new
township" adjoining Berwick, mentioned above??
