I tremble a bit a disagreeing with George Sanborn on anything, but Marsha
Wiswall Lindberg's "Genealogist's Handbook for New England Research" 3d
ed. states that Campton was located first in Strafford Co. then in Grafton.
Also a preface to one of the volumes in the NH State Papers series (I don't
know which volume) lists all the towns and when they were
granted/incorporated and when they changed counties and it states:
"Campton, granted 1761, Strafford 1771, Grafton 1782."

So are these two sources incorrect George?
