Hi:
I've been working sporadically on this line for some time now. My 5G
Grandfather, Charles Giles was in Middleton and Brookfield (Carroll Co.).
[b. 16 Oct 1770 (probably Northwood, Rockingham) d. 16 Aug 1833 in
Brookfield] There is evidence that his father was John Giles IV [b. ca.
1730; d. bef. 1807 in Rockingham]. Many have worked on this connection, but
it remains more than a little vague and mysterious.
John IV's line appears to go back to Mark Giles [b. ca. 1648 in Dover]
PROBABLY the son of Matthew Giles of Isles of Shoals and Oyster River.
Matthew is pretty well documented, although still somewhat mysterious. His
trail leads to Piscataway, NJ, where another of Matthew's sons lived.
Any information on the Giles would be greatly appreciated. I have some
information to share on Giles and enate lines:
Tibbets
Field
Moore
Piper
Warren
I have great and entertaining information on Elizabeth Giles (Matthew's
wife). If you've never taken a look at the NH court records, 1640-1692
(published in 1943) I highly recommend it. The entertainment value alone is
worth the effort of locating a copy!
