This short newspaper item may be of interest to some Nicholson family.
From the West Cumberland Times, Wednesday 10 June 1903:
KIRKLAND HOMING
SOCIETY.
___
The member of the Kirkland Homing Society held a race on Saturday
from Stafford, about 150 miles. The journey was flown in good time, and the
show took place at the Kirkland Road ends, where Mr. James Moore acted as
timekeeper and Mr. George Atkinson as judge. Result: -
1st A. LAWSON
2nd John GRAHAM
3rd William NICHOLSON.
Some of the birds did not return the same day, and on examination on
Sunday one was found to have broken a leg, it having been shot. Two others were
riddled with small shot.
