I was looking at that 1870 census. I think one possibility is that Susan
and Minerva are Cooks, not Nicholsons. The Cook male and Cook female were both
born in North Carolina, while the Nicholson is from South Carolina. Looking
at William Cook in a different census might give you a clue. David
Nicholson is listed next in that census also.
