Perhaps an item of interest....
In 1924, Virginia passes an " Act to Preserve Racial Integrity", outlawing
miscegenation and denying certain rights to anyone that was not 100% white.
Legislators made an acception to this rule, stating that citizens with one
sixteenth Indian blood were classified white, This was done in an effort
to save many influential family members of prestigious families from
falling under the jurisdiction of this law. [ "The Pocahontas Exception"].
