Dear Shar,
I looked in the Book of County Armagh and didn't find them on the pages I
copied (pp 235-248, 250-251)--- well except for:
Walsh, Mrs. M., Carrowmanon
Walshe, Thos., Carrowmanon
these are in an unknown-to-me town, since I don't have p. 249 copied, and
these names are on p. 250. The towns are alphabetical, and this town is in
the district of Castleblayney, and the town is between Altnamachin and
Camlough.

The only church record I have is for the Presbyterian church in Kingsmills
(no RC records)....

It sounds like you have already done a lot of research so far- that's
wonderful! So, you may already have found what I have listed below. I
thought I'd check the Ulster Historical Foundation (membership) and here is
what I could find for you:

Distribution of Surname BURDEN
This report provides an indication as to the parishes and counties in the
province of Ulster (includes counties Antrim, Armagh, Cavan, Donegal, Down,
Fermanagh, Londonderry/Derry, Monaghan and Tyrone) where the above surname
is most concentrated. This may help in providing a focus for a search in a
case where only the county of origin of an ancestor is known. The results
are likely to be of most value for surnames that are not very common or
dispersed across Ulster.

The database is based on the 'Index to Surnames' or 'Householders Index'
that was compiled by the staff of the National Library of Ireland in the
1960's. Although this Index covers surnames only and gives no precise
references to the documents for the parish where the surnames appear, it
does record the occurrence of properties occupied by individuals of a
particular surname in each of the civil parishes of a county. It covers the
surnames of farmers (usually leaseholders) in the tithe applotment books
compiled 1823-1838 and also all names of property occupiers in the printed
version of the tenement valuation, known as 'Griffith Valuation', covering
all properties in Ulster 1857-1864. Whilst it records the exact number of
householders in the case of the Griffith Valuation, it provides only an
indication of the presence or absence of a surname in the tithe applotment
books.

(To-date the database includes the nine counties of the historic province of
Ulster but plans are being made to capture the data for the other three
provinces)

searched Irish Flax Growers List, 1796 and didn't find them there either.

Susan;
What a lovely jesture, your willingness to do look ups is kind.

Would you please see if you can find a John BURDEN and his wife
Catherine WALSH?

In 1864, they had a daughter Bridget. Thenin 1866 a daughter Catherine
and then in 1868 a daughter Teresa. At least one of them was born in
Newry. I believe the other two were born in Armagh.

John was a railroad overseer on the railroad during this time frame.I
believe he is connected to the BURDEN'S who were from Kilkeel. The
BURDEN'S of tday are mostly all RC, as were the one's from Belfast.

Please see if you can find BURDEN or WALSH in any of the above . I so
appreciate your time and efforts.

Kind regards,

Shar/ USA
