This might be of help to all of you in case you haven't seen it. It is
a list of the LDS Irish Microfilms that are available. If you look a
little ways down the list, you will find those for Co. Armagh.

These microfilms are available from the Local Family History Centers
located in key areas of the US and some other countries. I am not
familiar with other countries as to locations (see below).
There offerings are priced quite reasonably. I was able to pick up a
used Microfiche reader at the local University Surplus Center for $5.00.
That may be something others might want to consider as the cost and
reasonableness of the Microfiche over other media makes Microfiche a
wise economical alternative for many genealogy records that you may want
to purchase.

This is a write up of the LDS Library that is quite informative and
probably 2nd to none in terms of genealogy materials and reference.

This is the LDS place to search for your materials so that you will know
if they have what you are looking for and form it is available in for
you to view or purchase.

This is where the LDS Family History Centers are located or at least
where you can find the nearest one.

No I am not mormon, but know what they have to offer. They do welcome
all religions and people to their centers. For an example of what they
have....for Newry and the surrounding area, they have film of the
Crossle Papers. These papers cover much of the 1800's as written about
in the local Newspaper and other publications in Newry. As this
Newspaper was distributed and contained news of families in both Co.
Armagh, Co. Down and probably the Co.'s to the South, this is an
excellent source to find those "rare" stories on your family that you
would not find elsewhere. One on my family in the papers told of my ggg
grandfather and the huge disappointment he had when his farm in
Ringclare Co. Down (near Pontz Pass) didn't win the local judging for
the best farm in the area. Also stories about his horses and incidents
involving them. These papers contain much of the local history and much
on the family members in each family as well. Mr. Crossle had taken
articles from the papers and catalogued them by families names (in some
cases not too easy to find which family file they were in) and put them
in many books by family. Currrently Suzanne Ballard is creating an
index of these papers that will allow finding the right families in the
right piece of the Crossle films. Some families were miscataloged and
her index will overcome these problems with the papers. This index
will soon be available at the LDS centers so that you can order only the
specific film covering your family. The films of these papers are
available now. These papers take up a considerable volume, extensive
would be an understatement. In my judgement and that of others that
have seen these papers, this has to be one of the priceless genealogy
treasures on Newry and the surrounding areas.

If you haven't seen or heard of these wonderful LDS tools for your
genealogy work, take a real good look to see what they have. I am sure
there are things that you will find helpful in your searching for your
long lost relatives and for opening the doors on your family brick walls.

I hope you will find these helpful to you!
