Village is 10km N of Antrim town
Barony of Antrim Lower
Irish- Coinnire [konyira] "(wild-) dog oak-wood". The present Church of
Ireland church occupies the site of the pre-Norman monastery and medieval
cathedral. Connor is twin village to Kells, which adjoins in on the west
bank of the Connor Burn. [(espoc.) Condere 514]

Coghlan, Grehan & Joyce

Connor, in Antrim: written Coindeire or Condaire in various authorities: the
derry or oak wood of the dogs (cu), or as it is explained in a gloss in the
Martyrology of Aengus, "The oak wood in which were wild dogs formerly, and
she wolfs used to dwell therein"
