Replying to the query of JWSWJS re Robert Porter b. 1811, Articlave, Co.
Derry - I need enlightenment on the location of Articlave.

The name Robert was given to the second son, b. abt 1850 in Ohio, of my gr
grandparents, Samuel and Sarah (Porter) Wiley. He died in infancy.

If Samuel and Sarah (Porter) Wiley followed the typical naming pattern for
their first child for the paternal grandfather (Moses), and the second for
the maternal grandfather, that would make the father of Sarah, Robert
Porter, and Samuel's father Moses Wiley (oldest child Moses). Sarah was b
1824, Samuel 1809-12.

A William Porter was on the same ship which sailed from Londonderry 1847.
Wm. Porter also appears later with wife Mary, son Moses, daughter Martha Anne
in S & S's church at Macedon, Mercer Co., OH.

On Samuel and Sarah's wedding 'certificate' (a small slip of paper), there is
a Robert Wylie as witness 1847. (Maybe it's the church letter of transfer
from Knowehead, Parish of Muff, Co. Donegal, also 1847). So this Robert may
be father?, brother?, 1st or 2nd cousin?.- or friend?) The name may have
been copied by someone else, and perhaps the spelling varied in the same
family as much as my Mom's Giffen name, spelled Giffin by many descendents.

Do you know if Robert Porter of Articlave was connected with a particular
church? Knowehead was Presby. The letter of transfer of 1847 to Macedon, a
small congregation in western Ohio was from a 'sister church' which was then
Associate Reformed Presby, which became United Presbyterian in 1858.

A lot of my Scots-Irish ancestors (Thompsons among them) were in PA before
their desc. went on to Ohio, but they went from Lancaster Co. to Cumberland
to Westmoreland, some on to panhandle of WVa first.

Hope someone finds a connection.
