Hello to all on the List

I have a mystery with my great grandfather, John McLaughlin, on his death certificate it states that he was born in a place called ARIGH. in Derry.
I have been unable to identify a town or village that comes any where near that spelling, the problem maybe that it was an abbreviation or when the informant gave the information in Australia the government official he may not have understood the Irish accent.
John McLaughlin was born about 1855 and later emigrated to New Zealand and Australia
I would appreciate any help.
