Hello Listers

I'm hoping someone can help me to trace the Ancestry of my Great Grandmother
Eliza GRAHAM
Eliza Graham was born in 1838, I believe in the Londonderry area.
I have the marriage certificate of Eliza Graham to my Great Grandfather
George Hill Smith. They were married in the Parish Church in Muff in Donegal
on April 21st 1858.

The marriage certificate gives George Hill Smiths age as full (he was born
in Dublin on 7th July 1833 and Eliza is shown as aged 18. George Hill Smiths
father was George Smith (messenger) and Eliza's father was John Graham (Flax
seed inspector). The marriage was witnessed by George Smith and John Graham
(I assume both Fathers).
Eliza's residence at the time of marriage is given as Bridge Street,
Londonderry.

Following their marriage George Hill and Eliza lived in Dublin, Armagh and
then Belfast. They had at least six children, Ellen, George Albert,
Elizabeth Adelaide b 1864, Maud, Graham and Maxwell Henry b 1874 (my
Grandfather). The first three children were born in Dublin and the last one
in Armagh. Not sure yet about the other two.

George Hill Smith was Barrister and eventually became a KC in 1914 in
Belfast. Eliza died in 1895, aged about 58, at Knock Villa (Dundonald area?)
and George Hill Smith died in 1926, aged 92, in Cregagh Road, Belfast.

Whilst talking to my mother and other family members on the Graham name I
was told that a cousin of my Grandfather often stayed with his family in the
Antrim area. This cousin was called William George Graham. I have traced
William George Grahams birth to Londonderry. He was born on November 2nd
1878 at 54, Roseville Street, Derry.
William Georges parents were Henry Thomas Graham and Matilda Gamble.
According to William Georges birth certificate Henry Thomas Graham was a
Publican.

I have also traced four more children of Henry Thomas and Matilda. These
were
Catherine 13th May 1875 William Street Derry
John Henry 7th May 1877 Roseville Street Derry
Catherine Eliza 14th August 1880 Roseville Street Derry
Mary Ellen 14th August 1880 Roseville Street Derry.

I am assuming that Eliza Graham and Henry Thomas Graham were sister and
brother. I have no other informatuion on this side of my family line.

If any lister has any connection to any of the names above I would like to
hear from them. Especially I would like to find birth details of both Eliza
and Thomas Henry Graham and informtion on their parents. Also the marriage
details of Thomas Henry and Matilda Gamble. Anything at all on the children
of Thomas Henry and Matilda.

Can someome also advise if Parish records exist for the Londonderry area for
the period around Eliza Graham's birth, circa 1838. Where are such records
kept and are they avaialble for research?

I hope the above note is not too long winded but I am keeam to trace this
side of my family line and plan to vist the area in July

Many thanks

Bill Murdy (Michigan USA ex Newcastle on Tyne)
