Hi,

I am trying to research the DEIGHAN family from County Derry, who changed
their name to DICKSON or DIXON in the 1860s/1870s. Here are the details
that I have so far:-

(1) Patrick DEIGHAN, farmer, died 1826, County Derry, Ireland. He had at
least 6 children, including:-

(1.1) James DEIGHAN / DICKSON, farmer & later publican, born 1820 County
Derry, died 1904, married:
1.1.a Catherine DEMPSEY from County Antrim, born 1823-4; died 1881
1.1.b Susan DONNELLY from County Antrim (married 1895)

The surname was changed from DEIGHAN to DICKSON sometimes in the
1860s/1870s, when the family purchased land & a pub in Ballymoney.

James DEIGHAN / DICKSON had at least 13 children from his first marriage.
Many of the children were farmers in Ireland, but became labourers when they
emigrated. Some went to the US, probably to CALIFORNIA.

(1.1.1) Patrick DICKSON, b. 1844-7 County Derry, farmer, married Mary
McLAUGHLIN, died 1911
(1.1.2) Thomas Francis DICKSON, b. 1864 County Derry, farmer, married Maria
O'BOYLE in 1888, emigrated to Glasgow, Scotland
(1.1.3) Daniel DICKSON, b. 1866 in County Derry, farmer. He emigrated to
CALIFORNIA, but later returned to Northern Ireland & married Mary Ann
BRADLEY in 1905.
(1.1.4) William DICKSON, b. Bendooragh, County Antrim, married Jane DILLON
in 1882, became a publican in Ballymoney & then emigrated to London
(1.1.5) Catherine DICKSON, b. Bendooragh, County Antrim, married James
TRAINOR, station-master in 1881.

(1.1.??????) Other children might be: James DICKSON Jnr, or possibly Joseph
DICKSON.

The surname may be spelt DICKSON, DIXON, DEIGHAN or even DEEHAN. The sons
who emigrated to California would have been born between approx 1844 & 1868.

Does anyone recognize this family?

Michelle
