Richard
Ray has given some good advice. I would only add - and you may well have
done this already - that the following might help.
Books
Researching Scots-Irish Ancestors 1600-1800 by William Roulston ISBN
1 903688 53 1 available from www.ancestryireland.co.uk
Tracing your ancestors in Northern Ireland by Ian Maxwell ISBN 0 11 495823
8.
Tithe Records available to view at PRONI www.proni.gov.uk in person. I
enclose some Tyrone /Derry Berryman names at the end of this post.
Estate records are another source but it is hit and miss whether any survive
for your area. William Roulston's book gives the following for Ballinderry
"Armagh- (archbishopric of) estate" Drapers Company estate. You can check
PRONI's listing of estate records for these and other parishes of interest.
I don't research in this area myself, but I have some vague, half remembered
notion that people who went to Durham were often connected with the
Londonderry estate as Lord L had mining interests in that area. Robert
Stewart , later Marquess of Londonderry did hold a joint lease of the
Salters Company estate. Magherafelt came under the Salters Co. There are
records in PRONI but if this turns out to be the area you seek you might
want to check the Londonderry records in the Durham area too.
