Sorry Bill:

You're absolutely right but I didn't want to give listers a lot to read. I thought if anyone had some clues they would contact me for further information. I was told in the beginning to keep the requests as short as possible.

Raymond Kelly sent me the info that there was a John Bell living on Fountain Street in the Griffith's Valuation 1848-1864 in Downpatrick. My John Bell was a Shoemaker (on the marriage certificate of his son John Bell) and I'd like to know if this is the same John Bell.

The source for this was the marriage of John Bell Jr. and Ann Rafferty in Killyleagh Parish Church, Diocese of Down 14 February 1853.

John's father is a Shoemaker but no mother listed.

Ann Rafferty's parents were Alex Rafferty (Weaver) and Agnes Balfour.

I asked Raymond to look in the Flax (whatever) as Alex Rafferty was a Weaver but he didn't get back to me.

I'm not familiar with Ireland and all the Parishs and Baronies and so on, that I can't wade through it all and actually know where to go.

Can I tell you anything else about these people that might help you? Not really.

I'm far more familiar getting around in Ayrshire where quite a few went. Al least there are Census there to work with. Sorry once again and hope to hear back from you Bill.

Bonnie,

I have been keeping an eye on your emails recently to see if I could help in
any way. I'm getting very frustrated with the way you throw out an
incomplete snippet of information without giving a date or your record
source for that information. That makes it practically impossible to help!
For instance, you found a John Bell who lived in Downpatrick. When? Which
record did you find it in? There have been dozens of John Bells in
Downpatrick and district over the last 150 years! In your previous emails
you mention a couple in Killyleagh. What are the dates and sources of your
information?

If I knew that I could perhaps work out where to look next. I'm sure there
are others out there who would like to help too. Remember, you may have a
very good picture in your head of what you are after. All we have is what
you put in your emails.
I hope to visit the PRONI in Belfast tomorrow (Friday 4th May). Try to get
back to me as soon as you can with some dates and which records you have
already looked at and I'll try to help.

Billy.

now what can I do with this information (locally) to see if he is the right
one?
