My small contribution to the parish of the week is as follows:
The Parish Church is called St. John the Evangelist and is in the Diocese of Down.
I have a photo(not very good) of the church also a distant shot of Killyleagh Castle - home of the Hamiltons - which I would be happy to scan and send as an attachment to anyone who would like one. Please contact me directly.
Some notes re Killyleagh Castle.
The castle dates from 1180 when de Courcy had established himself at Downpatrick and built earth fortresses with wood stockades and arching towers. Part of the great earth mound is still to be seen at Killyleagh. During Cromwell's time General Monk and his troops bombarded the castle and partially destroyed it.
