Thankyou very much for the information about PHAIR & HAMILTON families in
the townland of Clare . I am grateful.
What sort of farming did they carry out ? Would they have been dairying, &
growing crops for stock ? . Why would someone, e.g lease a plot of land,
but lease out one that he owned ?
Mary

> I have the Griffiths Valuation pages for the Union of Lurgan, Parish of
Tullylish, Townland of CLARE, 1864. This is where my GGF lived. William
PHAIR is listed. He leased a house and land, and land only, from Alexander
J.R. Stewart who seemed to be thr biggest property owner in Clare. But
william Pahair also owned and leased out two properties.
> There are several Hamiltons in Clare including Joseph Hamilton who leased
a house and garden from david Chambers. There is John Hamilton. William
Hamilton who leased four properties from Stewart. Also Lewis who leased four
small properties from Stewart; but also leased out a house he owned.Mary and
Jane Hamilton each leased a house and land from Stewart.
